Metro Rings: In addition, extensive “Metro Ring” networks have been built in all metropolitan cities and other major district towns, to provide seamless connectivity with last-mile solutions. BPL has adopted the Next Generation Network (NGN) and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) technology for the development of its telecommunications transmission network. The network up-time is 99.95 per cent throughout the year, with automatic switching protection (<=25 ms).
Efficient Fault Management: A fully equipped Network Management Center with state-of-the-art network management and monitoring software has been set up in Dhaka to monitor the entire network round-the-clock and provide customer support as and when needed. Regular repair and maintenance of this vast transmission network is done from the regional offices in Chittagong, Sylhet, Comilla, Bogra, Khulna and Cox’s Bazaar.
Licenses: BPL received a PSTN license in June 2004 to provide telecommunications services in the Northeast Zone of the country (16 districts). Subsequently, it was also awarded nationwide ISP and International Internet Gateway (IIG) licenses. BPL is also authorized to lease or share its nationwide optical fiber transmission network and any other telecom installations.
